My Dad Now Believes in Aliens

My dad was driving his truck at night through Nebraska in the 1980's. He was on a frontage road, with corn crops six feet high on either side of the two lanes. as he was driving in the dark, he saw ahead on the empty road lights shining out across the pavement on the right.
As he approached them, he pulled his truck over and reached across and rolled down his passenger side window. He said that he saw three bright white lights, each about eight feet apart, shining out a ways back in the corn. he said they were maybe ten to twelve feet off the ground over the corn. After a minute or so, they hovered up, tipped up at a forty five degree angle, and zoomed off without a sound, faster than he could watch.
He said he wasn't really scared, but curious and that he was certain it wasn't a plane. I don't really know what to think. There is such a thing as alchohol in college.
